A short history of Kosovo’s cinematography

In Kosovo, in 1900 in Gjakovë was opened the first photographical shop, whereas the first film project was shown 1912 in a granary of Peja by an itinerant cinematographer, while from 1937 till now, there are seven cinemas opened in different cities of Kosovo: Prishtina, Prizren, Mitrovica, Gjilan, Ferizaj, Gjakova and Peja. The first Kosovo’s art film in Albanian language is “Uka i Bjeshkëve të Nemuna” (Uka of Accursed Mountains) , (1968) directed by Miki Stamenkoviç.
